From tournament setup to final standings — everything a tournament leader runs into on a day with BoulesDay.

Welcome to BoulesDay

BoulesDay helps you run a one-day tournament for jeu de boules or pétanque.

  • You enter the teams. The app builds the schedule.
  • During the day you only fill in the scores.
  • The app keeps the standings and the final results for you.
  • Everything stays on your iPhone or iPad. Even after an update.

Step 1

Start a new tournament

You begin with a few simple questions.

  1. Tap the + button at the top right of the start screen.
  2. Fill in: name, date, how many lanes, how many teams, and how many rounds.
  3. Got different kinds of lanes (indoor, outdoor, covered)? Tap Add type and enter the count per kind.
  4. Tap Next. You'll see a preview: how many matches each team plays and how long the tournament will take.
  5. Looks right? Tap Set up tournament. Not right? Tap the back arrow and adjust the numbers.

Step 2

Player names and times

You're now in the setup screen. Here you finish the tournament.

  1. Fill in the player names for each team. Two names is enough. A third is allowed (triplette).
  2. Want to add or remove a team? You can still do that here.
  3. Adjust the round start times if needed. Or tap Auto-fill times.
  4. Want a break between two rounds? Tap Add break.
  5. Under Rules, choose By points (to 13) or By points or time.

Step 3

Build the schedule

Now the app builds the schedule. It decides who plays whom and on which lane.

  1. Tap Generate schedule. The app picks who plays whom for each round.
  2. Then tap View schedule to check everything.
  3. Not happy? Tap Generate schedule again. You'll get a different draw.
  4. Already entered scores? Clear them first before regenerating.
  5. All good? Tap Go to tournament at the top right to start.

How does the app build the schedule?

Useful to know what the app does. That way the schedule and the messages make sense.

  • The app looks at your teams, lanes, and rounds. If something doesn't add up, you get a message with advice.
  • Two teams never play each other twice in the same tournament.
  • Got enough lanes for all teams? Then everyone plays every round.
  • Got fewer lanes than needed? Then some teams wait a round. The app spreads that as evenly as possible across all teams.
  • Playing with an odd number of teams (3, 5, 7, …)? Then one team has a free round each round.
  • A free round counts as a won match with the score 13–6. That's an NJBB rule.
  • Waiting because there's no lane free does not count in the standings. That team just doesn't play a match.
  • The draw is different every time. Got a pairing you'd rather avoid? Tap Generate schedule again.

Step 4

Enter scores

Open the tournament to play the matches and track the scores.

  • Pick the round at the top. The counter (e.g. 2/4) shows how many matches are done.
  • Tap a match card to enter the score.
  • Fill in both scores and tap Save. Maximum 13, and no draws.
  • Under By points, one team must reach exactly 13.
  • Made a mistake? Open the match again and tap Clear score.

The standings

The standings update right after each score you enter.

  • At the bottom of the tournament screen you see the interim standings (top 6).
  • Tap it for the full standings.
  • Order: most matches won first, then best differential (points for minus points against).

The final standings

Once all matches are entered, the tournament is finished.

  • The tournament moves to Archive on the start screen.
  • The final standings show the podium, the full standings, and all results.

Printing and sharing

You can print the schedule, scorecards, standings, and final results.

  • Each of those screens has a print button at the top right.
  • On the View schedule screen, choose between Print schedule and Print scorecards.
  • A scorecard is one A4 per team, with a tear-off strip and score boxes per round.
  • Hand out the scorecards before the first round; teams keep their own score.
  • Each print button creates a PDF you can view right away.
  • Tap Share to print, email, or save the PDF — including this manual.

Handy tips
